PREMIERE

STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE BIG STACKED STEVE

Today, we’re introducing the temptingly named Strawberry Milkshake, which is the project of Liverpool’s Harry Handford, via a premiere of the fascinating new single ‘Big Stacked Steve’. Written back on 4th December 2017 while Handford’s home city was being battered by the Beast from the East, the track circles a few key topics; realising the extent at which humans operate; understanding how perspective can alter how you view yourself and you own ideas; appreciating the all-powerful presence of nature. As we hear through one of the song’s more melodious, reflective moments, 'Don't go too far - you’re not so tall. Water falls over symphonies of cars. It's beautiful; puts me in my place,' which Handford sings over a delicate electric piano arrangement. However, this moment of serenity is short lived, and the song reverts to the discord, chaos and velocity of jarring electronics, eerie synths, disruptive bass and off-kilter rhythms. On the whole, the song is about surrendering oneself to a higher power, whether nature, deity or something else entirely, and break out of the mental confinement in which most people live. - Hannah Thacker
